LET'S GET PERSONAL

A snapshot of who I am for new visitors to the site and old friends who've tracked me down.

Basics:

I was born in 1953. Apparently you are as young as you feel so I must be 35.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and London, U.K. I also spend a few months a year in NYC.

Musician:

I started piano lessons when I was 7. My entire family is musical (implying it is a genetic trait).

I discovered classical music in 1968 when my mother bought "Switched-On Bach." I was blown away by the sounds of the moog synthesizer but, more importantly, I was also deeply affected by Bach's music. Discovering Bach's music changed my life, giving me the clarity that put me on the path to becoming a musician. The follow-up release, "The Well-Tempered Synthesizer" again knocked my socks off and made me a lifelong fan of Domenico Scarlatti, Claudio Monteverdi and George Frederick Handel, as well as J.S. Bach.

But it wasn't just about classical music. That same year I discovered The Beatles, Donovan, Ravi Shankar, etc. so, from that point forward, I became a music addict. I listen to many styles, from alternative rock to EBM to goa to industrial to shoegaze to classical and much more.

In college I studied piano, composition & electronic music. After college I continued composing piano music and then bought a minimoog synthesizer and other equipment to create a home studio and produced what I now refer to as the analog archives. In the early 90's I bought a keyboard sampler and starting making music digitally, with the result being Delirious. I own two grand pianos: a Yamaho Disklavier in California and a Steinway in London. Few things make me happier than playing one of those pianos. I also own two double-manual harpsichords.

In addition to being a musician, I am a fan. A huge fan.

Geek:
In 1994 I quit my job and started a software company with my now ex-husband, John Buckman. It evolved into a 50-person company which we sold in 2005.

I know enough html, Photoshop and unix to design and maintain my website projects.

    PC or Mac? Mac.

While I enjoy going to the opera (but not listening to it at home) I also enjoy listening to Anjunabeats playing loudly while I read a scifi novel on my iPad. It feels like living in the future.

Speaking of the future, I own two islands in Second Life. Stop by and say hi.
